Welcome to Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation

Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation was established in September 2010, funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, with the specific remit to establish interdisciplinary teaching and learning in Gerontology, Rehabilitation and End of Life Care in UCC. 

We offer a postgraduate programmes in Older Person Rehabilitation which can be studied by taking either individual CPD modules or completing one of the following streams - Postgraduate Certificate and MSc.

We also offer Postgraduate Studies in Dementia. Similiar to the Older Person Rehabilitation Programme there are different streams of study - individual CPD Modules; Postgraduate Certificate and MSc.

This is a flexible, practical, interdisciplinary programme covering key topics in cognitive disorders and dementia. Apply online via UCC's application system.

UCC Leads Groundbreaking PD-Life Parkinson’s Research Hub

PD-Life (Enhancing Wellbeing and Quality of Life in Parkinson’s Disease), a €4 million project funded by the Higher Education Authority's North-South Research Programme, will establish the first all-island hub of excellence dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s. Led by Professor Suzanne Timmons from UCC Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation in the School of Medicine, this initiative places UCC at the forefront of Parkinson’s research on the island.

Horizon Europe Event at Main Campus

Researchers at University College Cork have secured €146m in Horizon Europe funding, exceeding the institutional Horizon Europe funding target two years ahead of schedule.  This includes Prof. Suzanne Timmons of Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation (CGR) who leads on two Horizon Europe Projects, AI4HOPE and InTouch.

Congratulations to Lisa Cronin, graduate of the MSc Dementia programme who recently published an article based on her MSc. dissertation research project in the journal ‘Progress in Palliative Care’.
